Welcome to October’s Totally Techniques International Design Team blog hop! I am Lynsay Mahon, from Edmonton, Canada, and you have just arrived here from the talented Marine Wiplier from France.
This month we are focusing on a technique called “Embossing Crackle” or “Cracked Glass.” This technique uses something that is universally loved – embossing! However, it is definitely a “next level” embossing technique!
Here’s how to accomplish this technique:
- Stamp the image you’d like on the cardstock.
- Apply Versamark directly to the cardstock and sprinkle clear embossing powder overtop.
- Use the Heat Tool to emboss until shiny.
- Repeat 5-8 times until there is a very thick layer of embossing. It should look like enamel.
- Put the embossed image in the freezer for a few minutes. Remove and quickly bend the image so that the frozen embossing cracks. Keep bending to get more cracks.
- I like to use a sponge to add a little colour to fill in the cracks and make it stand out, but this is optional.
Here is the first project I did using this technique:
You can see how I used Soft Suede ink to sponge over to get a vintage look to the cracks in the glass:
For my next project, I wanted to share with you a project I did for an OnStage presentation about the Varied Vases bundle that uses this technique:
I wanted the vases to look like ceramics with a cracked glaze:
One is embossed over a stamped image and the purple one is just over cardstock. Both turned out with the effect that I was hoping for (I love it when that happens)!
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these two examples of Cracked Glass!
Be sure to check out the rest of the blog hop – we have a talented group of demonstrators from around the world sharing their version of this technique! Keep hopping by clicking the links below:
