Totally Techniques – Bordered Sentiments

Welcome to the Totally Techniques Blog Hop! I’m Lynsay Mahon from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Each month our team of creators chooses a technique to feature and we showcase our projects using that technique.

This month we are sharing a technique called Bordered Sentiments. This was a new technique for me! Once I started playing, I couldn’t seem to stop so I have a few projects to share with this one.

The basic concept of this technique is to use a mask to create a blocked area of the card. Stamp over the mask so that once it’s removed, you have a blank space for your sentiment or focal image. You can use Stampin’ Up’s masking paper or if you don’t have that you can try it with secured scrap paper.

Once the mask is in place, it holds the space for the greeting and you can stamp over it to create the layered effect, all done with ink!

I did a Facebook Live to show the technique in action. You can watch the replay here: https://youtu.be/H10do3IUJb0

You can choose any theme of card. The best piece of advice I have for this is to fill in the space so the border is obvious. You can even do the border on an angle.

For this one, I used the Glow in the Dark specialty paper for the bears. Look how it turned out!

Be sure to hop along with the rest of the crew to see more projects using this versatile technique.
