Welcome to the Stamping Sunday Blog hop! You have just arrived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and my name is Lynsay Mahon.  This month, we are featuring the bundle “Snowflake Sentiments” from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalogue:

My husband and I had a winter wedding and all of our invitations and favours were themed with snowflakes, so I have to say that this stamp set is totally up my alley!  I love snowflakes, and being from Edmonton, I certainly see enough snow to be an expert. 🙂

I find that line drawn images, like the snowflakes featured in this bundle, lend themselves well to techniques!  The first project includes a technique to make your own mask using framelits.

Use a window sheet as your base, and cut out the snowflakes with your big shot.  This creates a custom made mask that fits perfectly over the stamped snowflake images. Here you can see my (well used) mask that I made:

I custom coloured embossing paste so that it matched the pool party background.  About 8 drops of Pool Party re-inker is enough to colour about 1/4 cup of embossing paste.  This creates the raised image on the card, giving it an interesting texture!  Here you can see the finished card:

With Window Sheets and framelits, you can create any mask that you would like!  How fun to suddenly have every mask to coordinate with your stamped images!

The second project I’d like to share, includes a technique as well!

I used the Delightful Daisies Designer Series Paper as the background.  Here’s how I accomplished this look:

  1. Stamp the snowflake in versamark ink over the polkadot DSP.
  2. Sprinkle Clear Embossing Powder over the image and heat emboss to set.
  3. Ink a sponge in Tranquil Tide and spongs over the snowflakes until the image pops.
  4. Wipe away any excess ink from the embossed image.

I finished the card by cutting out the 3 snowflakes in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper and adding the black rhinestones to the centres.

I love being able to extend the life of a designer series paper for different occasions!
