Totally Techniques – Starburst Technique

Welcome to the Totally Techniques Blog Hop! I’m Lynsay Mahon from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Each month our team chooses a technique to feature and every crafter shares their interpretation of it. I’m a huge fan of techniques so I love getting to try new ones.

This month is a new to me technique. Our team member, Kelly Acheson inspired us to try the Starburst Technique. Essentially it is a paper piecing technique that uses rays of paper to create the effect of a starburst.

I wanted my “rays” to have stitched edges. In order to have the ability to customize the size of the rays, I used my Stitched Rectangle Dies. I first cut out a smaller rectangle, then used a bigger rectangle to cut through the middle to create 2 triangles. Since our designer series paper is double sided, I was able to get 2 “rays” at once!

Once I had several pieces cut, I found the midline of my card and started by joining the points of the 2 lowest rays and then worked in from there.

I created a band in Shimmery White Cardstock to lay over the centre so imperfections can’t be detected. I finished the card by fussy cutting some flowers from the soon to be released designer series paper, Paper Blooms.
