Totally Techniques Blog Hop – Inlay Die Cutting

Welcome to the August Totally Techniques Blog Hop! I’m Lynsay Mahon, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Each month, one of our members chooses a technique to feature and we all present our version of that technique. I love how this blog hop inspires me to try new things, and to revisit some old ones too!

This month, Annette Elias challenged us all to try the Inlay Diecutting Technique. Although I have seen this technique before, I don’t think I’d tried it before, so I was excited to give it a go!

I wanted to create my own background paper for the inlay part of it, so having just featuring Sponge Daubers in Episode 23 of “Why Did I Buy This?” I used them to create a multicolour, blended background on Whisper White Cardstock. Then I used an aquapainter filled with bleach to splatter the paper and remove some of the ink. Here’s what it looked like:

Next I added the Foam Adhesive Sheets to the back of the paper I made, as well as a piece of Basic Black cardstock. I used the Happy Dies to cut out the word on both pieces.

Once both images have been cut, I laid the black piece with the words onto my card front, and used my Take Your Pick tool to remove the “negative” pieces from the word and inlay them. Here is the finished result.

The dimension of the word, and the inlayed pieces really make this card pop!

Now that I’ve given this technique a try, I can’t wait to keep playing!

Have you tried this technique before? I want to hear what your favourite dies are to use with the inlay technique! I’m sure there are some amazing floral ones to try.

Be sure to keep hopping with the rest of our talented, international team to see their versions of this technique! To see the list, click on the blue button below.
