Totally Techniques – Chalkboard Technique

Totally Techniques

Welcome to September’s Totally Techniques blog hop! I’m Lynsay Mahon from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This month, our talented team are focusing on Anette Elias’ favourite technique: chalkboard.

To achieve the look of a chalkboard is really simple.  Choose a dark coloured cardstock (Basic Black or Night of Navy work really well), and stamp your image using Whisper White Craft Ink.  It has a very realistic chalk look.

For my project, I was inspired by my friend Krista Frattin, and how she used the Come Sail Away suite to make a fancy fold card.  Although the fancy fold that I’m using is  different than Krista’s, I loved the colour scheme she used on her project.

Here is my take on it:

Here you can see the chalkboard technique up close:

I used the Come Sail Away Memories & More pack combined with the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.  What a beautiful suite!  I love the laser cut detailed paper in the Memories & More pack.  You can see it peeking through the window of the card.

To create the border on the lighthouse, I used a technique that I learned from Stampin’ Up! this week.  Turn over your die, trace it on your paper, and fussy cut it out.  This will give you about a 1/8″ border for your die image!

Amazing right?

What how fun this card is when you open it:

The inside is decorated with 3×4″ Memories & More cards and the stickers that come with it.  I love that the images are already there and cut, so it’s easy to complete a themed look.

And when we open the white card on the inside, we find this:

I heard about this technique from Jackie Bolhuis. This card is really easy to complete.  Simply use the Layered Square dies to cut out a centred square on the front.  This is what I layered the laser cut paper with the knots over.  On the inside, the white piece is a slightly smaller card (I used a piece of paper 7.5″x5″), inserted backwards, so the card opens to the right, instead of to the left.  So simple!
