Totally Techniques: Brushos

This month we are focusing on a technique using “brusho watercolor crystals.”  I’m in love with technique products like brusho, because it gives the ability for lots of creativity!  As you can see, from this post, I’m having a lot of fun with this product.

I have two projects to share with you using brusho.  The first one uses one colour of brusho, three different ways:

I love the moss green colour of brusho.  As you can see from the background, the individual crystals are different colours.  To make the background, I used shimmery white cardstock.  I sprinkled the moss green colour onto the dry cardstock, then used the stampin’ spritz to spray the background so that it activated the crystals and really showed off the different colours.

The second way I used brusho on this card, was to colour with.  I sprinkled the moss green colour onto a clear block and added water, to make a paste.  I used my blender pen to colour the leaves so they coordinated with the background.  You can see when they crystals mix, you don’t see the different colours.

The final way the brusho is used is to colour the Silver Baker’s Twine.  Again, I made a paste on a clear block by mixing brusho and water.  Then I used an aqua painter to saturate the baker’s twine with the pigment.

For the second project, I used the brusho to create punched embellishments:

This cute project is meant to hang on a water bottle so that someone can add the lemonade to their water.  Here are the instructions on how to make the treat holder:

1. Cut the old olive cardstock to 2-1/4″ x 7 3/4″
2. Score at 2″ on both ends using the simply scored tool
3. Use the 1-1/4″ circle punch to punch a hole in the top to hang off the bottle
4. Use tear and tape on both sides of the bottom flap to adhere to make a pocket
5. Accentuate with the vellum and lemon punch

To make the lemon and leaves, I spritzed water onto the shimmery white cardstock, then sprinkled brusho onto the wet cardstock and let the crystals melt and spread.  I love how you can see speckles of the watercolour crystals in the dyed paper. Here you can see lemon and leaves close up:
