Blog Hop – Totally Techniques: Eclipse

I am so excited to join the Totally Techniques International Design Team and blog hop along with them on the last Friday of each month!  I am Lynsay Mahon, from Edmonton, Canada, and you have just arrived here from Satomi Wellard’s blog.

This month we are focusing on a technique called “Eclipse.”  Although I had seen samples of this technique many times, I hadn’t put it into action before, so I was really happy to give it a go!

Here are the basics of this technique:

1. Use two layers of cardstock to build your card front.  A quick way to make this card is by using designer series paper as your top layer.
2. Cut out a shape from the top layer.  You can use a punch, letters or framelits!
3. Adhere the two layers together.
4. Use dimensionals to “pop up” your cut out shape.  This is where the name “eclipse” comes from.  Layering it over the cut out with no border gibes a “total eclipse” where as leaving some cardstock showing will give a partial eclipse.

The first project I made uses our Large Letters Framelits Dies to cut out the letters T-E-A:

I started with a sheet of the Just Add Color Specialty Designer Series Paper, and used my Stampin’ Blends to colour it.  Once coloured, I cut out the letters with my big shot and followed the instructions above to pop up the letters.  It’s a striking look, don’t you think?

The second project I made uses the Sale-a-bration Reward item “Tutti-frutti Cards & Envelopes.” This product is one of our free rewards for every $60 Canadian order during Jan-Mar, 2018!

On this card, I used the card base as the top layer and layered a piece of white underneath as the second layer.  I used the Rainbow Builder Framelits Dies to create this layered look with the clouds.

Once I started playing with this technique, it was hard to stop!  This project uses the Sweet & Sassy framelits to cut out the hearts on the Painted With Love Specialty Designer Series Paper.  What I love about this designer paper is that each piece has a side with gold accents on it, making the paper look incredibly rich!  The card looks complicated when it’s actually very simple to create!
