Kananaskis 100 mile relay

Posted on 06.27.09

Last week I ran in a 100 mile relay with 9 of my friends.  It was a beautiful day and this is the 5th year Bruce and I have participated in this race.  It’s a great day in the mountains and a challenging course.

You can see why we love it:

Yummy Eats and Sweet Tweets!

Wow!  What a fabulous weekend!

My sister-in-law gave my husband and I a great Christmas gift that we got to redeem on Saturday: A COOKING CLASS!

Now I am a self-proclaimed “non-cook.”  My husband loves to cook and so I gratefully let him. :) I have to admit I was a little nervous to take a cooking class, but it was INCREDIBLE!

We started the afternoon by visiting the local market with our instructor and picked out fresh, local ingredients to cook with.  We spent the afternoon sampling a variety of cheeses, balsamic vinegar, artisan yogurt and local wine, all the while preparing a wonderful meal.  We made Roasted Pepper Gaspazo, Roasted asparagus, whipped potatoes, and roasted bison ribs that melted off the bone.  The meal was completed with a heritage coffee cake with rhubarb compote.  Sigh.  I had a happy tummy!

That night we went to see one of my favourite bands: Rise Against.  Rancid opened for them and it was a rockin’ good time.

I love date weekends!

Shabby Chic

Posted on 06.08.09

Last fall at the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Summit, Shelli Gardner took us to one of her favourite stores: DEAR LIZZIE.

I found this great glass ornament there and yesterday, as I was admiring it again, I thought, “I wonder if I could do something like this?”

Here’s my attempt at the shabby chic ornament:

I took a circular piece of chipboard from the ON BOARD ESSENTIALS and using the CIRCLE SCISSORS PLUS I cut a coordinating circle from Sahara Sand cardstock about 1/4″ smaller.  I used the BLOOMIN’ BEAUTIFUL stamp set to stamp a light background on the cardstock and the central flower.  I colored the flower using pretty in pink and regal rose stampin’ write markers and then added gold sparkles from the FINE GALAXY STAMPIN’ GLITTER.  I finished it by smooshing versamark ink over the entire project and embossing 3 times with GLASSY GLAZE ENAMEL embossing powder.

Father’s Day Card: Totally Tool

Posted on 06.07.09

This is such a cute stamp set and I think my dad is really going to like it.

Using the window sheets to make a “shaddow box” kind of effect is one of my favourite techniques.  This one I first stamped with the background stamp SANDED with white staz on, then I used a dauber and chocolate chip classic ink to make it looked weathered.  I finished it with some distressed textured chocolate chip cardstock and by slattering reinker and water onto creamy caramel cardstock with pieces of chipboard to mask.

Matchbox Die

Posted on 06.06.09

Here’s a really cut Big Shot die that will make creating favours really fast and easy.  The Matchbox die uses minimal adhesive and you can mix and match papers to customize the top and bottom.

On this particular one, I used the FULL HEART punch to make a “peek-a-boo” window into the box. I coordinated it with the rub ons from the ini catalogue: SUMMER LOVE. You can see these matchboxes fit some cute little treats, including chapstick.  This would make a fun party favour for a little girl’s birthday party.

Window Sheets and Glitter

Posted on 06.05.09

One day, I was getting ready to go out and when I looked in the mirror and saw I had glitter all over my face.  I turned to my husband and said, “why didn’t you tell me I had glitter on my face.”  He sighed and said, “Lynsay, I’d be better off telling you when you DON”T have glitter on your face.”  Hee, hee!  Needless to say, I’m a bit of a glitter fiend.

Here’s a way to incoroporate glitter and window sheets.  Stamp the image with staz on ink.  Flip the window sheet and put Crystal Effects glue on the back then sprinkle glitter and let it dry.  Here I cut out the image and attatched it with a rhinestone brad.

The designer series paper was punched out with a square 1 1/4″ punch and then glued to white cardstock before cutting with the Top Note Die and the Big Shot.

Sponge Daubers

Posted on 06.04.09

I LOVE sponge daubers.  Seriously, it’s a bit of an issue.  I’m sure my stampers get sick of me using them, but they are so versitile and user friendly.  On this card I dipped them into the classic ink pad then daubed them onto the flowers and background, before I stamped the second part of the two step stamp of the “Flower Fancy” stamp set.

This is a simple, yet effective card that takes just minutes to make (my favourite!).

Back from Boston

Posted on 06.03.09

Last week I went to visit my good friend and fellow demonstrator, Tami White in Boston. The Boston area is BEAUTIFUL!  Big, leafy trees, and New England style homes.  Very, very nice.

I spent Saturday morning delivering a presentation to the Stampin’ Up! demonstrators in the area about profitability and their businesses and incorporating scrapbooking into their events - two topics that are near and dear to my heart and then that left the rest of the sunny afternoon to play!

We spent the day at the lake and I had my first encounter on a Sea Doo!  So fun!

We finished off the evening with a lobster-que (or as they say in Boston, “lobstah”).

The next day, my new boat driving skills continued when we went on a “duck” boat tour and the guide let me drive the boat.

It was a great trip and I hope to visit again soon.
